  Anyone here do any sort of volunteer work?

  i've been thinking about becoming a foster parent, or doing some work at the local shelter or something.

  just mulling over some ideas.... anyone have any experiences in it?.

  On Saturdays I volunteer at the local Soccer club, run a fundraiser sausage sizzle in the mornings and run the kitchen and bar in the evenings. At the end of May I am spending a day collecting for Womans Refuge. I love volunteer work as people appreciate what you can do more than the borg. They don't ask you why you havn't done more like in the field service.

  My hubby, Big mouth, also volunteers coaching a youth development soccer team of kids about 15 years plus and during the summer coaches 11-14 year olds at futsal.

  Hi Barbara,

  If you're still about, just a wee side question for my own personal research project, if factor VII has been approved, then are the witnesses allowed Anti-D as well which is plasma based and used it the treatment of Rhesus factor problems at birth or during pregnancy. I'm a student Midwife and all this about blood transfusions and anti-D antibodies is what we are discussing at the moment. Your information would be greatly appreciated or directions to where I can get downloadable copies.

  Taken Critical Thinking at College/Uni? I'd like to know your thoughts.

  this semester i am taking critical thinking/informal logic at a local university, and finding it very helpful.

  would anybody else like to offer some thoughts on their own experience with this?

  i'd be very grateful.. over the last 10 years my secular studies have given me a well rounded consciousness of general knowledge.

  Hi I did a sociology paper last year as a component of my midwifery studies. It felt really strange to start with but by half way through I felt refreshingly free. I now see the witlesses as a very small minority group without a voice run by a group of old farts who are stuck on tradition instead of getting real, opening their eyes and unable to apologise for past/present wrongs. I have never felt freer from those shackles than I do now that I have done that paper.

  i just joined this forum today after reading the comments on today's watchtower (which i have to attend in about an hour unfortunately).

  i was raised in "the truth" and it was only recently that i began to listen to a close friend of mine as he pointed out the secrets and lies that is the watchtower society and governing body.

  even though he was informing me for almost a year, he never gave up on me.

  What was the "point of no return" for you?

  was there a point in leaving the organization where you did something that demonstrated that you had officially made your decision to leave?

  for me, i think it's going to be when i vote in the general election this year.

  it will be my first action in public against jw doctrine.

  Being shunned by all my family; Mum, Dad and eleven brothers and sisters and their partners. Then shunned by the elders in our congregation when my hubby got sick. I remember sitting there with 6 kiddies, all on my own and being stared at when one of them cried or misbehaved.

  I remember 10 minutes into a meeting one Sunday my newborn wouldn't settle and the two year old toddler then started yelling. I made as much noise as I could as I struggled to pack them all up and leave the hall. No one helped, they just watched as I left. I have never been back.

  My kids, my hubby and I have never been so relaxed and relatively happy.

  Hi all. I'm heading to Runaway Bay, Queensland, Australia for a few days, arrive in Brisbane on 22nd March and fly home on the 28th March. My 12 year old son is representing Otago, New Zealand at a Futsal ( five-a-side indoor football) Tournament and I have scraped together enough to travel there to support him but am having trouble finding a

I am a full-time midwifery student and my husband is a full-time sickness beneficiary and both definately exJW. The accomodation would be just for myself as my son has a bed with his team mates as part of a package deal. Any offers would be greatfully appreciated and make me happy.

  ok, i was just reading penny's thread regarding dealing with the invites and noticed decki's post about guinness.

  the other day one of our posters started a thread about dealing with her hubby and drinking guinness.. i am so on a guinness kick at the moment.

  My husband, bigmouth, has drunk Guiness for years and it makes him a better person. He gets funnier, more attractive and great to be around. I wish he would drink more.

  Do you like being a parent or grandparent better?

  i would have never thought that i would like being grandfather but i enjoy it more than being a parent, anyone else feel the same way?.

  oh, by the way, my darlings are my new avatar, it is so fun being a grandfather and seeing the next generation come along, anyone else feel this way?.

  Yip. Grandparenthood is the best. You don't have to get involved too much with the discipline thing. Its't heaps of cuddles and fun stuff.

  My two are only babies really. Erin is 2 on the 7th of May, and Xavier is 12 weeks old: 3 months on the 21 March.
